Why Does My Online Gaming Lag A Lot?

The Speed Is Alright its 12 mbps and my connection on my ps3 is 100% i have it connected with wi-fi would it help if i connect directly. Does any body know what i can do to make it stop lagging. I tried reseting but no luck.
